Blue revolution to feed the word
In 1944 The Cooperative Wheat Research Production Program, a joint venture between the Rockefeller Foundation and the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture got involved in genetic research, plant pathology, entomology, agronomy, soil science, and cereal technology.
The goal of this project, directed by Dr. Norman Borlaug, was to boost the production of wheat around the world. As a result of this program, wheat yields nearly doubled in countries like Mexico, Pakistan and India between 1965 and 1970.
These collective increases in yields have been labeled as the "Green Revolution." As a result of increased food supply, Dr. Borlaug has often been presented as the savior of one billion people. In 1970 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in recognition of his contributions to world peace through increased food supply.
World Aquaculture 2009 will take place in Veracruz, Mexico 40 years after Borlaug's research program, giving us the opportunity to remember that our aquaculture industry offers a great opportunity to develop a new "Blue Revolution" to feed the world.

World Aquaculture 2009, "The Blue Revolution" is scheduled for May 25-29, 2009 at the new, world-class, World Trade Center in Veracruz, and will include:
