Canthaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment widely found in nature. It is an essential coloring agent that naturally occurs in bacteria, fungi, algae and insects, as well as certain fish and birds. It is through these channels that it eventually enters the food chain.
The pigmentation of egg yolk and chicken skin is a natural process in which canthaxanthin is one of the most essential coloring agents. However, there are insufficient levels of canthaxanthin present in animal feedstuffs. This impacts animal health and results in a product color that does not meet consumer expectations. Supplementation is required to achieve desired health and production benefits.
There are two types of carotenoids available to the industry. The first, natural carotenoids, are produced totally from nature. The second, nature-identical carotenoids, are produced through synthesis. Finding ways to improve and give more value to pigmentation is critical to poultry and fish feed producers. Novus offers pigmentation solutions that effectively address the individual needs and requirements of producers.
Based on natural identical canthaxanthin, CANTHACOL® is a red feed premixture that delivers consistent and uniform color for the egg yolk and broiler skin. When used in combination with yellow carotenoids, CANTHACOL® delivers the desired level of red coloring as well as efficient absorption, optimal dispersability and stability in final feed.
