The 16th IMS World Meat Congress will take place in Brisbane from 26-29 April 2006, and is expected to attract over 500 of the world´s most influential players in the global meat industry and present a range of keynote speakers..

The 2006 World Meat Congress is conducted by the International Meat Secretariat and hosted by Meat & Livestock Australia, the Australian Meat Industry Council and Australian Pork Limited. It is held every two years in a leading meat producing nation.

In April 2006 the World Meat Congress at the Brisbane Convention Centre will give you a rare opportunity to participate in an international program that aims to position the global meat industry for a prosperous future. An extensive program of activities is planned to target key meat industry representatives globally.

A world class list of presenters has been sourced to provide their perspective on where the industry will be in 2020 and how regions throughout the world are preparing themselves for future opportunities and challenges.

Session one will be a facilitated session that involves an international panel that will discuss the typical consumer in 2020. The panel will be represented by an international panel of experts on nutrition, eating quality, consumer trends from a range of regions and an international retailer.

Session two will then move onto broader community expectations of the meat industry. The international panel of speakers will address issues such as the environment, animal welfare, the use technology and product integrity related to food safety and traceability.

Meeting consumer needs through supply chain and trade policies

Session three will have notable representatives from key meat producing regions around the globe discuss their region´s ability to supply meat today and their potential as we head to 2020.

Session four will challenge the industry to consider how international trade policies will meet the future needs of consumers and consider how trade policies may impact on the global meat trade.

The event will focus on global trends, innovations and issues affecting the meat and livestock industry.

With the defining theme of ‘2020: Meat–the road ahead´ the program will address the four main areas of Consumers, Community, Supply and Trade Policy. These will be accompanied by unique opportunities to take part in pre- and post-congress industry activities for the meat processing, pork, beef and sheep meat sectors, around Queensland´s Gold Coast, Darling Downs and Rockhampton regions.
