Poultry And Livestock Show (PALS) is a redefined Show in Africa. This event will take place in Kumasi City, Ghana on October 16-17, 2014.

Layer Farming and for that matter the production of commercial table Eggs is another Topic for discussion. A per capita intake of 15eggs is just unacceptable as it indicates serious health implication for a (24,000,000) twenty four million Population. Even with this Low egg Production levels, Marketing of commercial table eggs has always been a problem. The cost of production continues to grow higher and higher whilst upward adjustment of the price of an Egg is always a problem. Egg production in Ghana now requires adding value to the Raw egg. The immediate thought is POWDERING of eggs to make it stay longer and supplied to industries for the production of Pastor, Ice creams and other Food products that requires Eggs in its production chain.
About 90% of the Ghanaian Layers that we are talking about are kept on the floor in the Deep litter systems, this opens a huge door for Battery Cage egg production. The advantages of Cage production of commercial Egg cannot be over emphasized. All over the world the growth of the poultry production has been linked to Battery Cages and suppliers and manufacturers of Battery cages need to take advantage of the platform that PALS offers, to introduce Ghanaian Layer Poultry Farmers to Cages, CHAIN FEEDERS, NIPPLES and Allied Equipment’s.

Pig production is next to the poultry in the animal production sector and it has been a good alternative for Ghanaian farmers who are exposed to the challenges in the Poultry Industry. Again Ghana needs a very strategic processing Facility to help process pork to Sausages, Harm, Bacon etc. to create a change from the Traditional eating of Raw Pork. Our Pig Farmers are also facing difficulty with sales and marketing whilst huge quantities of processed pork are imported into the country. Pig production is at it low level with local breeds that do not farrow large litters, enough to make the production profitable. This calls for improve Breeds to improve upon the local breeds if the pig production can grow.

The hatchery sub sector of the Poultry Industry play a major role in the Day Old Chick Distribution, however Larger Numbers of Layers and Broilers Day Old Chicks that is about 4.5million per Annum, are imported from Europe. This calls for Expansion in our Hatchery Operation. Our Hatcheries will like to take advantage of the International PALS when Manufactures of Incubators seize this opportunity to introduce these Products at the PALS Exhibition.

The Nation consumes a lot of milk and milk products but it is sad to say that the country can not boast of even one Dairy Cow. This means that all our milk is imported. Immediately we can talk about the need for Dairy Farms to Produce milk locally. Indeed Ghana has a large room for Business with investors in its investor free climate, if there is still so much opportunity for poultry, pig and Dairy cattle.

Not only dose PALS offer the opportunity for marketing, it is also and an investment forum that provides investors the opportunity to produce for the Markets that already exist and regularly crying for attention. If we talk production we also implicate automatically, that manufactures suppliers and Marketing companies that sell all Poultry and Livestock INPUTS for the poultry and livestock industries, are needed on board to participate in the success story of this emerging market. The MARKET that the Nation Ghana already has, makes it a Gate way to AFRICA, the emerging World Market or better still the Emerging World Economy.
