1,000 exhibitors, 1,800 animals, 150,000 m² of exhibition space, and 77,000 visitors expected to attend
including 2,000 international visitors… each year the SOMMET DE L´ELEVAGE never fails to record better
figures than the last. The 2007 show is set to confirm its ambition to be the leading European forum for professional
beef breeders by presenting examples of every French and European beef breed. The 2007 SOMMET
will also present a wide selection of dairy cows by hosting the prestigious National Holstein Competition, the
leading dairy breed both in France and abroad. As a well-known business forum, this year the SOMMET DE
L´ELEVAGE will again provide a host of opportunities for business exchanges and conviviality anchored around
the latest farming issues.
What´s new in 2007 ?
1,000 exhibitors: a symbolic figure
set to be exceeded in 2007
The 16th SOMMET DE L´ELEVAGE
will be the first to boast a list of 1,000
exhibitors representing every farming
and breeding sector. 1,000 exhibitors,
including over 300 international exhibitors
from 26 countries, i.e. 2007
figures for foreign exhibitors are set to
rise by over 10%.
The show´s organisers are also expecting
a higher general public attendance
rate with over 77,000 visitors expected
during the 3-day event, including
over 2,000 foreign visitors from sixtyodd
countries.
150,000 m² dedicated to showcasing
the breeding sector
For the first time, the Grande Halle
d´Auvergne exhibition area will be used
in full and will be entirely dedicated to
showcasing the breeding sector: equipment,
agro-supplies, genetics, services…
every activity sector will be represented
and illustrated by the latest
technical innovations.
This year the walls will yet again be
pushed back and the site redesigned,
especially outdoor areas, in order to
improve exhibition conditions. Three
additional hectares will be developed
in order to create an area specially designed
to receive even more farm machinery
exhibitors (tractors, tillage and
fertilisation equipment…).
Events in 2007
National Holstein Competition
The leading dairy breed both in France
and abroad, the Holstein breed
will present 450 of its best animals at
its national competition in the Zénith
d´Auvergne Events Building located at
the centre of the exhibition area. For
the first time, this prestigious building
will receive the leaders in the French
dairy genetics sector for an outstanding
competition to be held in front
of a professional public which is expected
to attend in great numbers. An
event definitely not to be missed !
Note that an auction will be held following
the competition on Friday 5 October.
China in the spotlight
In 2007, the SOMMET DE L´ELEVAGE
should provide an exceptional opportunity
for Franco-Chinese business exchanges
as part of the Joint Committee
created by the French and Chinese
Ministries of Agriculture in order to
develop agricultural partnerships
between the two countries. A meeting
dedicated to breeding activities in
China, organised jointly by the Ministry
of Agriculture and the ADEPTA (Association
for the Development of International
Exchanges of Food, Agricultural
Products and Technology), and the
presence of an official Chinese delegation
will allow breeders and French representatives
to learn more about this
vast potential market. The organisers
are also hoping to host the first meeting
between the future French and
Chinese Ministers for Agriculture.
Along the aisles
Dairy cattle – Hall 2
Dedicated solely to dairy cattle, Hall 2
will host:
- Competitions for the Montbéliarde,
French Brown, Simmental, Normande,
Tarentaise and Abondance breeds
- Two auctions will be held for selected
heifers of the French Brown and Simmental
breeds
- Presentations of the Jersey and Pie
Rouge des Plaines breeds
Beef cattle – Hall 3
The leading European forum for beef
breeds continues to bolster its animal
presentations by giving each breed
extra space and developing the sector
concept with a wider presentation
of the whole beef production range
(cross-bred animals, grazers, finished
animals, label rouge, etc.). This year the
event will again showcase the cream of
the crop of the beef breeds:
- Competitions for the leading French
beef breeds, i.e. the Charolaise, Limousine,
Blonde d´Aquitaine, Salers,
Aubrac and Gasconne breeds.
- Presentation of several beef breeds
including the Piemontese (Italy), Belgian
Blue (Belgium), Parthenaise, Bazadaise,
Ferrandaise, Villars de Lans,
to name just a few.
- A ‘pavilion´ sporting the colours of the
British flag showcasing the Angus and
Hereford breeds and a presentation of
the English beef genetics sector.
To sum up, every French breed and
4 European breeds will be presented
in 2007 !
Sheep – Hall 3
The sheep centre has been further extended
this year to host 400 animals
which, for the first time, will have their
very own show ring.

(Charollais, Texel, Suffolk, Berrichon
du Cher, BMC, and Rouge de l´Ouest,
among others)
- Presence of a British ‘pavilion´ showcasing

Horses – Outdoor area
This year, horses will have the use of a
newly designed area, boasting in particular
the installation of a show track
that is better suited to the event´s presentations.
- Every French heavy draught horse
breed will be represented with over
300 horses as well as competitions
for the Percheron, Ardennais, Breton,
Comtois and Auxois breeds.
- Horse team competitions
- Presence of saddle horses
- Herding dog demonstrations
And as always…
- Livestock farm visits: intended for
foreign visitors, farm visits will provide
a means of discovering the Charolaise,
Limousine, Aubrac, Salers, Holstein
breeds and also sheep farms and
an artificial insemination centre. These
half-day group tours are free of charge
and accompanied by an agricultural
engineer and a guide-interpreter; they
are always very popular with foreign
visitors.
- Conferences and seminars anchored
around the latest agricultural issues:
European seminar organised by the
INTERBEV trade commission on ‘Regulations
governing animal well-being
and the transport of cattle´; along with
a number of conferences organised by
the exhibitors.
- A particularly full programme with several
professional promotional events:
