Information

In aquaculture, we can add value to our products, through processing, transformation and packaging. We can also add value during the production cycle, by management of its various components, so as to increase overall productivity. We can add value to research, by producing ‘knowledge products’ that can be used by others – for incremental knowledge advancement; for developing innovation or for supporting policy. We can add overall value in research management by harmonisation in programming; by better use of infrastructure and by nurturing our human resources.

Finally, we can add value to societal, environmental and natural resources, by generating new economic activity products’ based on environmental services, or diversifying existing ones. So the focus of the AE2014 theme is on ‘products’ rather than ‘production’, and the three thematic plenary presentations will focus on this.

AE2014 Plenary Sessions

Plenary sessions take place each morning of AE2014 and our invited speakers will present these sessions, that ‘open the debate’ and pave the way for the parallel, technical sessions of contributed presentations in both oral and poster format.

• Adding societal value: Gastronomy of farmed fish and shellfish products. The opening plenary session will highlight the excellence of farmed fish and shellfish products in simple, innovative dishes that can be prepared by all.

• Adding value to aquaculture products: Innovation and diversification to enhance productivity, profitability and quality of aquaculture products and strengthen the European seafood processing sector.

• Adding value through environmental/ecological sustainability: Case studies of aquaculture practices on various species (fish, shellfish, algae, others….) that positively interact with the environment, reduce footprint, give access to sustainability branding and certification, and/or access to (new) markets.
