Hens not laying eggs in the nest is one of the major issues in breeding farms. This article has a good debate on this issue but this issue need more research keeping in mind that we have to balance welfare of hen and economy of operation. If we put too much emphasis on animal welfare that it make the operation uneconomical then whole operation will be closed, so there will be no hens for minding their welfare only empty space.
