A Nutritional Approach to the Use of Anticoccidial Vaccines in Broilers: Glutamine Utilization in Critical Stages of Immunity Acquisition

Published: January 3, 2020
Summary
Introduction Coccidiosis is considered one of the most important poultry diseases worldwide due to the economic losses it produces in performance and due to medication usage (Williams, 2002; Dalloul and Lillehoj, 2005). Dr Park, congratulations on the study, and once again it was characterized that supplementation of glutamine, an amino acid considered to be non-essential, improved the performance of chickens subjected to immune stimulation through vaccination. This is one of several studies that show that supplementation with non-essential amino acids such as aspartate, glycine, glutamate and glutamine, in diets where their levels apparently meet or even exceed those recommended, result in improved performance. of broilers under challenge. The question that is repeated is, how is the practice of reducing crude protein in the diets of birds? I return to these considerations based not only on data from the literature but also on our own experience in implementing studies covering this subject. And I have no other goal than to listen to the community, especially those who have experiences that do not confirm our understanding of the matter. The contradiction is what drives science.
