The information provided about the lesions are of a general nature and not specific to any mycotoxin in particular. It would be interesting to know if the lesions recorded were correlated with mycotoxin levels either in the tissues or in the feed fed to the birds that were slaughtered. Thanks, M. G. Nair

These lesions could be caused by mycotoxins or by other agents. Identification of histopathogical lesions is recommended to reconfirm the clinical diagnosis.

Dear Manuel ContreraI,
I am a regular follower of engormix but not a veterinarian but doctor for human health.
Please advise me on the availability of rapid diagnostic kit that could be used as a field test to detect mycotoxins and or other biological contaminants in implicated food items that are associated with food poisoning by populations in remote communities in the third world countries. Food scarcity is a big issue for some population that food which obviously not fit for consumption are eaten hence illness occur sometimes leads to fatal outcomes.
Would appreciate your response.

Have you checked cholinestrease levels in the birds before slaughter?

Don Stickle we had a huge mycotoxin problem in beef and found out with ISU's diagnostic lab that most died from inhibited cholinestrease most likely due to mycotoxins and compounding the problem with feeding an ionphere
