What do you think about health, raw material prices and global situations around farmers' cost of production?
Juan Pedro Romero
Hello Juan,
There is actually an intricate relationship among all the factors counted above in your question. Since Feed constitutes more than 70% cost of rearing in birds, the type of raw material, its quality, proximate components, digestibility and nutrient availability are critical to optimize the performance of birds.
Unfortunately due to the current price rise in raw materials due to global changes which are taking place along with bad Agri year in 2021, more emphasis has been on finding alternate Energy and Protein sources. With the current conventional diets, the production costs have increased and passing on the higher costs in the market has impacted the profitability and acceptability at the same time. It is reported that the production costs or prices have risen by 25-30% in last few months and the retail inflation has gone up by 6%. All this adds to the economic worries, contraction in profitability.
Using unconventional sources of protein and energy have their own consequences on the birds health and performance unless they are handled well. Most of the unconventional diets are either deficient or partly deficient in one or the other essential nutrient along with the anti nutritional factors they carry which have myriad of consequences on the health and performance. Mostly the impact is seen on the gut health of birds either through physiological disturbances or structural changes.
The solutions which are helping to a good extent to overcome these challenges at the moment are enzymes (Individual and Cocktail) which target the components of unconventional diet which lead to these changes. Although this is also not a complete solution as the variation in raw material quality is dynamic. But to keep the production costs at bay and to ensure profitability and performance optimization, the best available solution in the present situation is the use of Enzyme programs along with other strategies which helps in leveraging the benefits out of unconventional diets and give respite to the producers from the price volatility they face.
