Dear Chin How Cheong , Free nucleotides and nucleosides can be immediately absorbed by the enterocytes in the intestine, being especially important in tissues of fast cell multiplication and limited capacity of de novo synthesis (main metabolic route of nucleotide production), as intestinal epithelial cells, blood cells, hepatocytes and immune system cells. Therefore these nucleotides are synthesized through the salvage route, where the body can produce nucleotides with less energy cost, since it will recycle the bases and nucleotides from metabolic breakdown of the nucleic acid from dead cells or from the diet. However, when endogenous supply is insufficient, the nucleotides from exogenous sources become semi-essential or “conditionally essential” nutrients . This occurs mainly in animals during rapid growth process (early phases), reproduction, stress and challenges. An economically feasible source of nucleotides is ICC hydrolyzed yeast Hilyses.
