Effect of Feeding Garlic (Allium sativum) as Prebiotic on the Performance of Broiler Chicken
Published:July 2, 2019
Summary
Introduction The use of antibiotic based growth promoters is presently facing serious problem and has raised global concern as some reports revealed their ill effects among which are development of microbial resistance to the products and their potential harmful effects on human health (Rahmatnejad et al., 2009). Moreover, antibiotics lead to drug resistance in bacteria and drug residues in me...
Dr. Joga, it is a relevant study that considers garlic as an alternative to the use of antibiotics in poultry nutrition. I believe that the greater potential of the use of garlic in poultry diets would be more associated with the presence of its two components with antimicrobial action, allicin and garlic, present in its composition, than that of inulin. Therefore, it becomes impracticable to attribute its positive effects on bird performance to only one of these components. Another detail to note is that data regression analysis should be used instead of the means test.
There are many "fairy tales" about garlic, which can have different variants.
Garlic has active ingredients that are well known.
It is necessary to establish the content of these substances in a specific sample of garlic and explain the purpose for which these substances should be introduced into the feed. That is, there should be a working hypothesis for conducting research and the possibility of achieving this goal as a result of the action of active substances of garlic.
