Controlling The Spread of ILT

Published: February 1, 2015
Summary
Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) is a disease of economic significance for the poultry industry because it induces high mortality, delayed growth, increased feed conversion, occasionally increased condemnations, and drops in egg production and egg size because of temporary reduction in feed intake.  ILT is also a major concern because it is suspected to synergize the impact of pathogens th...

Very detailed and very Informative article too .
ILT is still a threat to Poultry Industry, it causes High Mortality and mostly infection occurred in the flocks which are not well vaccinated against ILT in Rearing age .
Curing the Disease is again economic loss and also very few Antibiotic response well even for controlling secondary bacterial infections.
Better to vaccinate the flcok during rearing once or Twice with Live vaccine available in the Market .
A strict biosecuirty measure and good cleaning and followed by good disinfection will also help to curb the disease if the Farm or the area is contaminated with ILT . Mostly all Avian species are suspected for it .

Really detailed & informative article, particularly mentioning the bio-security requirements in ILTV spread control. I request the author ( Dr. Zavala) for commenting upon ventilation & humidity management relationship to ILT disease establishment & control, so that spread & establishment of ILT can better be controlled. I say thanks in advance to really competent & Honorable Professor Dr. Zavala for comments please.

The indian scenario is quite different. lPAI is endemic. H9 is endemic in India over a decade. No surveillance or control measure for H9. in addition H5N1 is variant in 6 countries including India -H5N12.3.2.1. since 2012 vaccine for control of variant ai is not available. Further variant IB nephro pathogenic strain is widely prevalent. Since the last six months there has been wide prevalance of vancomycin resistant staphylococci in feed and enviornment. To sum up,  the present indian scenario is exacerbation of lPAI. The exacerbating agents are ND/IB/ILT/Coriza/e.coli/Staphylococci. Without control of base that is lPAI control of of secondary agents alone is not satisfactory.
