Mycotoxins semiannual survey of mycotoxin in feed in 2022 Taiwan

Published: September 29, 2022
By: Life Rainbow
In the first half of 2022, Life Rainbow mycotoxin analysis lab collected 161 feed samples of raw materials and feed mills in farms and analyzed. The survey provides essential information on the feed pollution situation of aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, and G2), zearalenone, fumonisins (B1, B2, and B3) and deoxynivalenol (DON) in Taiwan. All the samples were analyzed using ELISA mycotoxin analysis kit.
Results:
The results show that 88.8% of feed was contaminated with aflatoxins; 80.7% of feed was contaminated with DON; 68.9% of feed was contaminated with fumonisins; and 62.7% of feed was contaminated with zearalenone (table 1).

The data were conducted on corn meal, nursery, and pregnant diet to reveal the prevalence of mycotoxins, in which, corn is the most common feed in Taiwan. Out of total 161 samples, 36 samples from corn meal were analyzed. DON was found to contaminate 86.1% of 36 corn meal samples, followed by aflatoxins (66.7%) (table 2).

Aflatoxins was detected in 95% of 20 nursery diet samples, followed by DON, detected in 85% (table 3).

The occurrence of mycotoxin in pregnant diet also analyzed and founded that aflatoxins, fumonisins and DON were most prevalent mycotoxins in pregnant diet, detected in 96.6% and 82.8% of samples respectively. (table 4).

Conclusion:
In the first half of 2022, the results show the most prevalent mycotoxin exam in the feed samples in Taiwan was that 89% of feed was contaminated with aflatoxins; 81% of feed was contaminated with deoxynivalenol (DON). This can be due to the dramatic weather condition in the exporting countries (ex: USA and Brazil), the shipping conditions, and the storage condition in Taiwan. Mycotoxin contaminated feedstuffs will raise the risk to impact animal production and economic profit. According to the reginal survey, feed manufacturers and animal producers can be aware of the occurrence of mycotoxins and implemented actions into mycotoxin management.
Life Rainbow Biotech has been researched mycotoxins for 16 years and developed an enzymatic mycotoxin-degrading product. Toxi-Free PLUS® which has mycotoxin degrading enzymes produced by gene modification and expression within microorganism. Thanks to biotechnology, this is so far the most efficient way to detoxify the zearalenone (F-2), deoxynyvalenol (DON), and ochratoxin A. Toxi-Free Plus® provide complete protection against mycotoxins. Adding Toxi-Free PLUS® to the feed as daily care product can reduce the damage caused by the mycotoxins, improve the health of farm animals, and result in increasing farmers’ profit.
