Silvafeed® Natural Plant Extracts to be Introduced in the US at 2018 IPPE

Published: January 25, 2018
Source : Silvateam
Silvateam is a major producer of natural plant extracts with headquarters in San Michele Mondovì (Italy) and subsidiaries in Argentina and Peru. Silvateam is pleased and proud to introduce two products at the 2018 International Production and Processing Exposition (IPPE). Featured at the IPPE will be Silvafeed® ATX and Silvafeed® Nutri P both of which have direct application for the production of broilers, turkeys, and table eggs.
SILVAFEED® ATX
Silvafeed® ATX is a proprietary blend of polyphenols (Minimum: 90%) which act as natural antioxidants in all animal species. Its benefits are derived from the family of polyphenols including catechins, gallic acid, proanthocyanidins, resveratrol, and flavonol glycosides. The major activities of the polyphenol components include scavenging of free radicals, regeneration of vitamin E, inactivation of metallic irons involved in oxidative reactions and inhibition of pro-oxidant enzymes with concurrent induction of phase II detoxification enzymes.
In vitro antioxidant capacity can measured by different methods, such as Oxygen Radical Antioxidant Capacity (ORAC) and Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity (TEAC) assays. When Silvafeed® ATX was measured in vitro with the ORAC assay, its activity was about 5 times that of either dried oregano or dried rosemary and 7 times that of vitamin E below.
When measured by the TEAC assay, Silvafeed® ATX gave a 60% inhibition of free radicals compared to a range of 40 to 50% inhibition for antioxidant vitamins C and E.
The in vivo antioxidant capability of Silvafeed® ATX is reflected in lower lipid peroxidation (rancidity) in meat. Thio-barbituric acid (TBA) assays demonstrate a 32% reduction in Malondialdehyde (MDA) content of muscle from broilers fed Silvafeed® ATX compared to controls fed diets without ATX during storage up to seven days under refrigeration. Adding Silvafeed® ATX to a broiler or turkey diet can result in a more acceptable flavor of the resulting meat and a higher quality product for the consumer. The in vitro and in vivo benefits of polyphenol dietary supplementation are documented in over 50 articles in peer reviewed literature.
SILVAFEED® Nutri P
Silvafeed® Nutri P contains a combination of tannin extracts from Argentinean quebracho and Italian chestnut trees. Their addition to a poultry diet can have a beneficial effect on intestinal function and health. Figure 2 shows a comparison of comparable sections of typical small intestines of broilers fed the same diet with and without Nutri P. In addition to modulating intestinal motility, Silvafeed® Nutri P has natural bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects which promote a beneficial intestinal microbiome including an enhanced Lactobacillus spp. population and specifically suppressing Clostridium spp.
Silvafeed® can be an effective replacement for antibiotic growth promoters and has a positive effect when used in combination with enhanced immunity for flocks and programs including optimal ventilation and litter management. Claimed benefits for broilers and turkeys include improved growth rate and feed conversion based on a stable microbiome and intestinal health.
At IPPE exhibition, Silvateam representatives will be in attendance on the Silvateam Booth 167 in Hall C to discuss application of the range of natural products.
