Enzymatic Solution to Increase Poultry Producers Profitability, Maximize Sustainability and Contribute to Better Gastrointestinal Fitness

What is Xylamax®?
Xylamax is a premium GH11 xylanase enzyme specifically designed to liberate the maximum amount of entrapped nutrients in poultry and swine diets. Poultry and swine are only physically able to utilize about 85-90 percent of the energy in their diets; therefore, it is essential to target the natural indigestible portions to release those nutrients. Xylamax targets the most commonly found fiber-based anti-nutritional factor found in animal diets to release entrapped nutrients and provide more energy to animals resulting in better meat or egg production.
How does Xylamax work?
Non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) are complex carbohydrates that entrap nutrients in cell walls. Over 40 percent of those NSPs are xylans. Xylamax’s unique properties liberate trapped nutrients by breaking down the complex chains into smaller chains that an animal can utilize. Breaking down these shorter chains into two-five unit chains provides the beneficial bacteria in the animal gut with a readily available source of energy, or creating, what is commonly known as, the prebiotic effect.
Which sorts of grains and cereals can Xylamax be useful in degrading?
As a structurally modified GH11 xylanase, Xylamax releases entrapped nutrients in all types of grains effectively. Unlike some xylanases, Xylamax breaks down most xylans found in grains such as corn, soy, sorghum, wheat, and more. Since animal diets are comprised mainly of various grains and cereals, an enzyme feed additive must work effectively on many types of grains. Xylamax most effectively degrades both water-soluble and insoluble xylans found in the most commonly used grains mentioned. How will this affect Poultry and Swine producers financially? Over 70 percent of production cost is related to feed and diet. The non-degradable portion of the diet, commonly referred to as anti-nutritional factors entrap about 10-15 percent of animal diets, which means the unused portion quickly adds up. Xylamax breaks down the most abundant complex carbohydrate anti-nutritional element Xylan and therefore releases more energy to the animals. In BRI’s global studies, Xylamax yielded 50 percent more kilocalories (kcals)/kg diet than other xylanases on the market. That is an increase of two percent in total diets, which can add up to a significant value over time. Due to the high activity of Xylamax at the animal’s physiological pH and temperature, it gives between two to five times the return on investment of other xylanases. It does so by delivering more energy and xylanase activity in the appropriate section of the gut.
What does Xylamax® mean for sustainability?
Sustainability can mean different things to different people. At BRI, we strive to create solutions that drive environmental and economic sustainability. In fact, BRI was founded on the principle of discovering and developing natural solutions to help agriculture become more sustainable. Xylamax creates a more profitable, and therefore economically healthy, production system. It allows producers and nutritionists to formulate more energy-efficient diets. By allowing nutritionists to reformulate diets to contain 4-6 percent less grain, Xylamax contributes to feed cost savings and a lower carbon footprint. Inside the chicken house, the science behind enzymes also reducing the levels of ammonia, phosphorus and carbon emissions. Reducing the emissions of these compounds creates a chain reaction that allows for decreased emissions in other areas of the production system. By doing so, Xylamax contributes to a more sustainable food chain globally.
