JSR Genetics' 19th Technical Conference, entitled '50 Years of Excellence in Breeding', which takes place on 16th September 2008, will bring together influential industry thinkers of the present - and future.

JSR's Dr Grant Walling will give the keynote address whilst Dr Huw Jones of Genesis Faraday will tackle the topical subject of carbon emissions. Professor Dianna Bowles will present her paper 'Bioscience: the science of the 21st century'  followed by Rob Cumine, former M&S Agricultural Manager, who will give his expert view on accessing and creating value markets. Wouter Sinnaeve, a Belgian pig producer, will represent the practical angle with down to earth insights.

Top future talent will be present too, as JSR has given students the unique opportunity to attend this flagship event - and present their work at the JSR Press Dinner - by submitting a synopsis of their research and career aims in a UK wide competition.

Joint winners were Claudia Richards who, undertaking an MSc in Meat Science and Technology at Bristol University, will submit her research on boar taint compounds and Dagmar Kapell, a second year PhD student at the Scottish Agricultural College, who will present his paper on the genetic improvement of piglet survival.

Tim Rymer, Chairman of JSR Genetics, who took part in the selection process, looks forward to the event, "JSR's Technical Conference is always a highlight and introducing these talented individuals to the industry will make it really special. They are knowledgeable, skilled, determined. Both have a tremendous amount to offer and we really are duty bound to ensure that such potential isn't wasted."

Conference tickets are available.
