Australian Pork Limited has recently released a brochure to assist consumers in understanding product labelling requirements and purchase Australian pork.

The brochure titled “A guide to purchasing Australian pork products - Know the talk and make sure it is Aussie pork”  has been distributed to a wide variety of pig industry representatives as well as butchers across Australia – to assist in spreading the word.

APL Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Spencer, said this is just one of a number of initiatives APL is planning to educate consumers about how labelling laws are affecting Australian pork and its producers.

“Imports of pork continue to enter Australia at an enormous rate, many consumers don’t know that 70 per cent of the ham and bacon they buy has come from the other side of the world,”  he said.

“This is a way we can counteract the stress which is being placed on our Australian pork producers, by giving shoppers real choice if they wish to buy Australian,”  he said.

“This easy to read and understand brochure will assist in educating consumers to purchase Australian pork products, and support Australian pork producers,”  he said.

The brochure details simple key facts such as: “Product of Australia means it is 100 % Australian grown”,  and “Ham on the bone is guaranteed to be Aussie Grown.”  It also provides numbers of who to contact if you suspect there is incorrect labelling at your local retail outlet.

If you would like further details about how to purchase Australian pork, or a copy of “A guide to purchasing Australian pork products - Know the talk and make sure it is Aussie pork”,  contact APL.
