Hi Karen,

I am mainly interested in the role of fatty acids in dairy cow nutrition as far as well-being is concerned. Firstly, can you comment on the possible benefit of C18:1 supplementation in early lactation as a way of mitigating lameness, since we know that this particular fatty acid is a major constituent of the soft pad and is mobilised as manifested in the increased levels in milk fat during NEB?

Secondly, what are your views on supplementation with C16:0 again in early? It is argued that the fatty acid promotes partition of energy towards milk fat rather body tissue and therefore exacerbates loss of body condition.

Thirdly, is there a role of omega-3 fatty acids in minimising oxidative stress?
