Silvateam was awarded a prize for innovation during the 11th World Congress on Polyphenols Applications, that took place in Vienna (Austria) at the end of June 2017.
Silvateam has been recognised as a top innovator within polyphenols application fields because of the company ability to promote, during its 160 years of history, the use of tannins on an industrial scale and in a wide range of applications, including among others food, beverage, pharma and agro.
Silvateam management was delighted of the achievement, and even more grateful of receiving recognition from such a competent audience for years of researching innovative techniques, processes and formulations.

The World Congress on Polyphenol Applications, organised by the International Society of Antioxidants in Nutrition and Health (ISANH), has become a major international event for academics and industries dealing with polyphenols and their health benefits. This year, experts from all around the world gathered to share latest advances on subjects receiving close interest in the field of polyphenols.

Silvateam presented the several beneficial effects which its products can exert on the health and nutrition of the animals, reducing the environmental impact of livestock industry. During the conference, Dr. Mariano E. Fernandez Miyakawa, Researcher at CONICET and INTA in Argentina and Silvateam partner, has presented the results of his study, entitled “Intestinal microbiota changes produced by chestnut and quebracho tannins added to poultry feed”. The results show that Silvafeed® tannins are among the various micronutrients which influence the diversity and composition of the gut microbiota, potentially impacting gastrointestinal health and disease development. Therefore Silvateam is offering a next generation microbiome sequencing analysis to institutions, researcher centers and industry as well as to individuals who want to screen and go deep into the understanding of their microbiome.
Being well known as a good source of antioxidants, Silvafeed® tannins manage to alleviate the detrimental effects of stress conditions or improve product quality. Yet they can show a host of biological activities including antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial or antiviral effects.
The adequate intake of these tannins can support monogastrics in controlling diarrhoea, favouring nutrient absorption and improving poultry litter. In ruminants, they protect dietary proteins from extensive degradation in the rumen and improve the flow of essential amino acids to the intestine.
Lastly, Silvafeed® tannins are a source of choice as natural alternative to synthetic antibiotics and anthelmintics, in order to counteract the threatening development of microbial resistance to most common drugs throughout the world.
All in all, Silvateam participation to this renowned event has been a unique occasion to meet a lot of illustrious experts and start discussing new and wider co-operation opportunities.
