Salmonella is a vertically transmitted bacterial disease. Regular testing of breeding stocks by plate agglutination test using colored antigen is quick and even large flocks can be tested. Elimination of affected flocks prevents the spread.
Plant extracts that are not sterilized and handled improperly can be a source of Salmonella infection to a healthy flock. One should be extra careful.

Rapid whole blood agglutination test for salmonella is very important as it is immune suppressive infection causing vaccination failure and immune inefficiency against most viral diseases.
