Plant extracts are more safe than synthetic drugs. With natural plant extracts the treatment is echo free. There are so many herbals which can treat the birds and animals without any harm to birds and animals and at the same time no harm to consumers. The only thing awareness is required in public.

sir, plant extract pancosma might be doing good for immune-modulation in broiler or layers. My point is different that we try to identify more such good items for protection of birds . But good nutrition with best ingredients with acceptable aroma basically corn-soya quality with modern nutritional additives are now good to keep the immunity at proper level giving rise maximum 2% mortality with excellent fcr in broiler like 2.5kg with 1.65fcr at 40-42days in average open house system or best tunnel ventilation system. If we try to go for complete antibiotic free food products for chicken meat or egg and dairy products then perhaps we have to make our feed more free of animal waste uses irrespective of it's protein and mineral values. However perhaps pancosma would be finding some place in the nutrition of animal husbandry practices for better food quality in future. Thanks for such new approach . dr m rath

Dear Dr Ayyangar, Effectively, public and consumers' awareness is key for this switch from AGP to plant extracts/free production.I personally feel that this changes is already slowly on-going in most of the countries Worldwide. USA and the FDA are currently looking at evaluation of the safety of AGPs and starting to study some lists of susbtances to be prohibited. Canada is exactly in the same case. There is an interesting report which has been published about antimicrobial resistance, it is available at : http://www.who.int/drugresistance/documents/surveillancereport/en/ Regards

dear sir, immune-modulators like vit-E -tochopherol are quite acceptable in poultry production. In poultry biological system immunity development is mostly a genetic- breeding concept and nutritional needs of broilers have been widely examined and elaborated in the manuals of primary breeders. Yes many herbal additives are good for growth and immunity of birds and cattle but these are mostly available through veg corn soya diet base. Synthetic vitamins are always recommended only to fill the gap of requirements. So my point would be veg feeding to commercial sector poultry ration automatically take care. However if we intend to incorporate any specific product like the present one Pancosma SA it is also good but need to support good tested result for long field trials which will gradually make the farmer to learn. I know less on herbal item Pancosma SA and would like to know more how it help in improving immunity to less immune chicks against new viral threats on trade lines of poultry productions.
