However if you experiencean outbreak, I suggest you use a coccidiocide to kill the adult coccidia and repeat the treatment before the newly sporulated oocysts reproduce to break the cycle. This would preclude the development of resistant coccidia.

I agree with Dr. M. Mazhar Khan. The best control measure is to vaccinate the birds between 1-5 days of age with Cocci Vac. We have used this method effectively since 1976 in all the farms I have supervised. I still would like some research to be done on the source of the Coccidia that infects birds in newly built poultry units which have been thoroughly disinfected with all the equipment and para ...

Let's all face it! The purpose of antibiotics is for curative/therapeutic use in both humans and animals. While we, in animal production, cannot totally disregard antibiotics in our production systems, we should be cognizant of their consequential effects in the human food chain based on meat, milk, and egg products. Our responsibility to provide safe and uncontaminated food products is foremost i ...

I agree to the use of enrofloxacine to combat Mycoplasmas and salmonellas. First 48 hours of a chick's life will give the chicks a good start for later Salmonella and/or Mycoplasma challenge. But you should investigate how these microorganisms got into your flock. While Salmonellas are ubiquitous, these can be controlled through effective biosecurity measures, farm layouts (distance between adjace ...

Is the swelling only on the wattles? if the swelling also involves the face , it could be coryza. If the swelling also involves the whole head it could be SHS. The best way to determine your case is to have serological tests conducted to corraborate your post mortem lesions.

I agree that sex determination is not at all affected by temperature variations in the incubation process but rather the sex chromosomes. the resulting sex ratios derived from the manipulation of the incubator temperature is more the effect of preferential embryonic mortalitiy on either male or female embryos. At any rate, the article and pictures are very well presented and very informative. Howe ...

One definite indication of an infectious bursal disease (IBD) is the presence of multiple disease gross lesions in postmortem conducted on mortalities in one flock. Infected birds likewise react severely to other vaccinations and commonly are associated with the presence of opportunistic bacteria (Colibacillosis). Suspect a failed vaccination for IBD when there are symptoms and gross lesions of se ...

Hello Danka, Interesting photo about mycoplasma synoviae and escherichia coli infection in poultry. It would have been very useful for viewers if you had put captions describing your observations in each of the pictures. That would help a lot in our analysis of your problem. From the pictures ( are they from one bird or from different birds?), we can clearly see the clinical signs of E. coli ...
