Terminal disinfection is the most important part of any disinfection program, as it ensures the elimination of any loopholes left during the disinfection procedures. The most common and successful method is fumigation.

The conventional method which has been used since old times, is reacting Formalin and Potassium permanganate. However, this method has many drawbacks as it may catch fire, has a very short duration action, besides being an unethical and unsafe for the user.
Also, due to non- availability of Potassium permanganate in some regions (being a raw material used in explosives), there was a need to replace it with a safer and more professional way to do fumigation.

Montajat took the lead to adapt a new technology, to replace this dangerous method of fumigation. The product is called- FORMAGENE. It is a very simple to use, highly safe for all farm workers, and above all it produces almost 10 times more formaldehyde gas, than the above old method.

FORMAGENE is active against all types of pathogens harmful to the poultry birds. Someof the main microbes covered are-

Viruses:   
1.      Avian flu (including H5N1)

FORMAGENE has a very specific and broad mechanism of action, and does not leave any chance of development of resistance. It binds to the amino- groups in microbial proteins, metabolic enzymes and nucleic acids, leading to killing of the microbes instantly.
Also, it tends to impair the normal respiratory functions  in all predators (displaces oxygen from air), hence all rodents, birds, etc. escape from the house, and can not get close to the house until fumigation effect is there.

FORMAGENE is available in Paraformaldehyde prills form (like crystals), and can be easily handled like a powder. The prills are volatile, and directly get converted from solid to gas form upon heating (Sublimation). The best method is to use a conventional thermostat- controlled fumigator line, or a simple pan on a hot plate (with thermostat), to substitute as a cheaper module.

Formaldehyde gas from FORMAGENE is pure, and extremely safe method of killing living microorganisms in poultry farms and livestock houses. It is non-corrosive therefore does not cause corrosion or damage to the fabrics or fittings of the buildings or vehicles. FORMAGENE is most effective in humid conditions and at temperatures above 150^oC.

Recommended Applications:-

1. Gaseous Fumigation Of Closed Buildings For terminal Disinfection e.g. Poultry Houses, Layer Sheds, Egg Stores and Laboratories.

2. As a slow Release disinfectant For Nest Box Linings

3. In Incubators, And As Egg Disinfectant in hatcheries

4. Fumigation of poultry farms, livestock houses, incubators, egg store rooms, hatcheries and Lorries  etc.

Methods of Application:

1.     As a terminal disinfection:

For poultry houses (closed houses):

- Ventilation should be stopped by closing all windows, doors and ventilators, otherwise Formaldehyde gas will be lost with the escaping air.

- All livestock animals, edibles, medicines and birds should be removed from the houses.

- Thoroughly wash, disinfect and sweep the house. Make the house ready with litter, utensils, etc. 

- The fumigators should be ideally placed 30 meters apart. Fill 320 g of FORMAGENE per 100 cu. meter of space. Set heat control at 425º F (220º C; ideally above 150^o C) in the fumigators, and the timer to allow 30 minutes per 500 g of Formagene.

- Leave the building immediately.

- Allow three hours after gassing has ceased, open all doors and windows (from outside), and switch on power ventilation for at least 3 hours before re-entering.

- If possible allow 2 to 3 days before re- introducing stock.

2.     As a slow release disinfectant for nest box linings:

- Place 15 grams FORMAGENE in each nest box. In lower climatic temperature, the quantity may be doubled.
- Keep in mind that the fumes do not disturb the hen.
- Heat from the sitting of the hen will release gas.
- Renew weekly, or as required.


3.      As an egg disinfectant-
- Fumigate at 10 g/ m³ in a heating- pan/ cabinet.
- Preferred Area Of Disinfection:
           In a specially designed reception room, where eggs enter the hatchery.
           Specialized fumigators in trucks (transport vehicle)
           In setters - Before The 3rd Day Or After The 8th Day

Hatchability Falls When:
- Eggs Are Already Undergoing Embryonic Development
- Eggs Have Been Stored For More Than 5 Days
- Pre- Washed Eggs ("Lost Bloom Eggs")

Recommendations:
- "Warm" Eggs Preferred.
- Pre- treatment of the Room by Misting with Water Gives Better Results.


How is FORMAGENE better than Formalin?
