Accurate, On-the-Spot Results
VICAM’s DONCheck™ is a simple qualitative test for the detection of the trichothecene mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON). DON is a toxic byproduct of several Fusarium mold species that commonly infect wheat, corn, barley, and other grains. Nicknamed vomitoxin for its severe effects on the gastrointestinal system, DON may also cause reduced feed intake, poor weight gain, and immunosuppression in susceptible livestock species, even at low concentrations (1 to 3 ppm). Concerns about acute DON toxicity, as well as the risks of chronic exposure, in animals and humans continue to fuel surveillance of grain crops worldwide. Many nations have also adopted guidance or maximum allowable levels for DON to control its spread. The U.S. FDA currently recommends a limit of 1 ppm in finished wheat products for human consumption. In animal feed, advisory levels are 10 ppm for cattle and chickens, 5 ppm for swine, and 5 ppm for other animals.
DONCheck Test Strips provide fast, accurate, on-the-spot results at a cutoff level of 1 ppm. Thanks to the proven detection power of VICAM’s antibody technology, you can reliably screen for contamination in as little as 3 minutes without any special training or expensive equipment.
DONCheck is easy to use in the field or in the lab. Simply dip the Test Strip into the sample and read the results.
DONCheck is an effective rapid method for screening grain samples and, when used in conjunction with VICAM quantitative immunoassay kits, serves as an ideal first step in total quality assurance.
BENEFITS
Fast – Results in as little as 3 minutes*
Simple – No special training or equipment required
Accurate – Detects the presence of DON at 1 ppm
Convenient – Can be performed anywhere
Durable – Long shelf life, no refrigeration required
Economical – Inexpensive first step in your testing protocol
Versatile – Works with a variety of samples
USING DONCHECK IS EASY AND RELIABLE:
1. WEIGH sample.
2. ADD Strip Test Additive.
3. EXTRACT with water.
4. INSERT Test Strip into extract.
5. INTERPRET results visually.
– Appearance of both test line and control line indicates DON level is below the test cutoff.
– Appearance of the control line alone means DON level is at or above the test threshold.
– No visible control line means test is invalid.
* Excluding sample preparation and extraction.
