Published: December 10, 2012
Summary
INTRODUCTION Detection of estrus (heat) is often cited as the most costly component and undoubtedly, the major limiting factor to the success of A.I. programs on many dairy farms.  Incorrect detection of estrus is related to loss of income due to extended calving intervals, milk loss, increased veterinary cost, increased heifer rearing cost, and slowed genetic progress.  To achieve e...

Thanks Mr Nebel for submitting such a informative article, definitely detection of heat is still a biggest bottleneck world wide. For perfect heat detection and insemination need perfect knowledge of cow estrus behaviors and ovarian dynamics. This article could be very useful who are not using any tool of heat detection especially like Tail Chalking.

Thank you Dr. Nebel for your well written and informative article on Heat Detection and Time of AI .In Pakistan the crossbred cattle (local x Frisian) have reproductive problems and do not get pregnant. Most of the problematic cows come into heat every 13 days and duration of heat is 48 to 72 hours and do not settle after Insemination/covering with bull. Would you kindly update us regarding the causes of this problem.
Thank you in advance.
