Int’l - U.S. poultry imports to Russia up 18% in Jan-July

Russia increased poultry imports from the United States 18% year-on-year in January-July 2005, the USA Poultry and Egg Exporting Council (USAPEEC) in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus told Interfax with reference to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Russia imported 394,200 tonnes of broiler meat in January-July 2005, up 18% against the 334,000 tonnes imported in the first seven months of 2004, the USDA said. In value, imports increased 21% year-on- year to $298.8 million.
Poultry imports from the U.S. to Russia have significantly increased over the last few months, the statistics show. In July 2005, Russia imported 73,700 tonnes of broiler meat, which is 37% more year- on-year and 74% more than in June 2005.
Russia remains the largest purchaser of poultry from the U.S.
