Climate Change: Grasslands help?

Good day folks,

According to a new report by FAO, grasslands have an unutilized potential to mitigate climate change by absorbing and storing CO2. Pastures and rangelands represent a carbon sink that could be greater than forests if properly managed.Grasslands can also play a major role in supporting the adaptation and reducing the vulnerability to climate change of over one billion people who depend on livestock for a living ...

FAO Assistant Director-General Alexander Müller said:

“The world will have to use all options to contain average global warming within two degrees Celsius. Agriculture and land use have the potential to help minimise net greenhouse gas emissions through specific practices, especially building soil and biomass carbon. These practices can at the same time increase the productivity and resilience of agriculture, thus contributing to food security and poverty reduction”

What do you think?
Who should take action?

01/28/2010 | This is great thing about research, you keep on finding new things and you keep on correcting old mistakes. But when we should start trusting these scientists and researchers. In stead, I would like to believe that we should leave every thing on nature. nature find solutions itself, it may not be suitable to humans but it finds its solutions.

Re: Climate Change: Grasslands help?
01/28/2010 | It is an important paper. We must do some thing to save our planet and food for coming generations. Of course Nature protects everything then we should also live naturally with out stressing the nature provided resources. We are putting too much stress of on mother nature. The establishing grassland zoness will help in reducing the global warming and providing economical feed to livestock. It would be more close to mother nature. The grasses are highly digestible and provide good nutrition to animals.
