EquYX: Revolutionary Equine Semen Extender

Date of publication : 4/13/2009
Source : Tolga Ltd.

The only horse semen extender that operates at ambient temperature has been developed and released by Tolga Ltd.  The new EquYX© extender, currently available for breeders, requires no refrigeration in storage or shipping. Horse semen extended with EquYX© may be kept at room temperature or in the fridge and can withstand temperature swings from 0°C to 38°C (32°F to 100°F). EquYX© provides the opportunity to maximize the shelf life of non-frozen spermatozoa and reduce the expense of handling, shipping and storage.

With EquYX© spermatozoa survive in premium condition for three to seven days, considerably longer than other non-frozen extenders. EquYX© is engineered using a delicate balance between the extender's energy compounds, cold- and heat-shock inhibitors and overall pH and osmotic control. When EquYX© is combined with sperm the expected result is a reduction in sperm activity. This "resting" phase allows sperm to conserve energy and does not affect fertility. Actual insemination successfully reactivates the sperm.

EquYX© is simple to use; semen is extended at room temperature, stored in a small styrofoam container, and shipped without any refrigerant. EquYX© contains 800 mg per litre of antibiotics. The extender is clear so that the spermatozoa are easily visualized and their morphological characteristics can be examined.

EquYX© has been subjected to extensive in vitro and in vivo testing with results far superior to other extenders.

The extender is shipped as a frozen liquid and can be kept in a freezer for up to one year. Both the 250 ml and 500 ml size can be thawed and broken into small aliquots and then refrozen.
