Offshore Mariculture Mexico 2015. Call for Papers

The global aquaculture industry continues to be the fastest growing animal-food-producing sector, accounting for around half of all fish consumed in the world today. Offshore Mariculture Mexico, is building on the success of its European sister events, and has secured support from both the Mexican National and Baja Regional Governments via their aquaculture departments – Inapesca and Sepesca.

This two and half day international conference will examine the progress and prospects for farming offshore and will focus on the Americas, including latest legislation, technical advances and investment opportunities which effect the day to day running and profitability of the offshore farming business.

Following input from the Conference Advisory Board, the call for papers for the 2015 Conference have been finalised and companies, organisations and individuals are invited to put forward papers in the following categories:
The latest international and national (Mexican) developments in offshore aquaculture:

International legislation, policies and strategies
Potential markets
Development of production infrastructure
Scientific and technological research funds

Business management:
Set up – Permits, investment, financing, funding, grants, insurance, risk assessment, training
Marketing of “offshore” products
Spatial planning/integrated Coastal Zone Management

Species – what to farm:
Molluscs eg bivalves and abalone
Finfish
Crustaceans
Macro algae
Sea cucumbers
Integration with seaweed/renewable energy systems

Stock management and husbandry:
Fish welfare
Health management strategies
Feeding strategies
Stock management to control reproduction

Innovative Technologies:
Harvesting and processing technologies including the value added aspects
Cage engineering
Onshore facilities (including hatcheries)
Containment systems and other strategies for escapes
Moorings, feed systems, cages and netting

Abstracts using case and “real life” studies will be given precedence.

Abstracts should be no more than 200 words and should be sent, with a biography of the speaker, headshot photo and logo, to iroberts@mercatormedia.com by 16 January 2015 at the latest.
